About The Program

Wounded Healer Project’s individual therapy program is tailored to meet the unique mental health needs of veterans and their immediate family members. Designed and facilitated by licensed mental health counselors who are also veterans, this program offers a personalized and empathetic approach to therapy, understanding both the challenges of military life and the difficulties that can arise when transitioning back to civilian life.

The program provides a confidential, supportive environment for veterans and their families to address a wide range of concerns, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, anger management, grief, substance use, and many other concerns. Therapists utilize various trauma-informed care approaches, adapting them to the specific experiences of each participant. Additionally, sessions focus on strengthening family dynamics and communication, equipping veterans and their loved ones with tools to improve relationships, navigate stress, and foster resilience.

The unique structure of our individual therapy program offers the dual benefit of clinical expertise and lived experience from veteran therapists, creating a foundation of mutual understanding and respect.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is my cost determined?

We will collaborate with you on what you can afford. We operate on an “honor basis” – we won’t ask for proof of income or any other financial determinants. You tell us what you can afford, and we take your word. In good faith, we hope that if there was a significant change in your income that you would consider changing your rate to help us pay it forward to other veterans and their families who may not be able to afford therapy services.

Cost is a barrier for me. Do you have options?

Yes! We offer FREE mental health therapy services with any of our Master’s Level Clinical Interns who are also veterans themselves.

What is a Master’s Level Clinical Intern?

Master’s Level Clinical Interns are student veterans who are pursuing their Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and are in the clinical phase of their degree programs completing their practicum or internship requirements for graduation. They are supervised by a fully licensed clinician who oversees all of their clinical work.

How long can I receive free services?

There is NO limit to how long you can receive free services. However, our Master’s Level Clinical Interns are typically with us for about 9-12 months before they graduate. Many of our interns choose to continue working with us after graduation, but their minimum rate increases to $45/session once they receive their Candidate license. You will have the option to remain with your counselor if they stay with WHP or transfer to another intern to continue receiving free services.
