Veteran Treatment Court

Stabilization & Resiliency Group (VTC-SRG)

VTC-SRG is a weekly therapy group for VTC-enrolled veterans, held on-site at the county courthouse, and provided at no cost to the veteran while they wait for their court-mandated mental health counseling agency placements to begin (sometimes exceeding 30+ days).

About The Program

Many of the Veterans who enter the VTC are living in crisis due to unaddressed mental health issues, addiction, isolation and incarceration. However, some are forced to endure prolonged waiting periods (as much as 30+ days) before they can secure court-mandated placement in local mental health agencies to address addiction and other underlying behavioral health issues. Currently, VTC-enrolled veterans receive limited mental health support and community engagement via peer mentoring programs. However, there is no consensus on what mentors’ legal and/or ethical responsibilities are or should be vis-à-vis addressing existing mental health issues.

Wounded Healer Project has an active master contract in FORUM and Colorado Probation services from all districts are able to request a participating addendum (or child contract) to begin receiving services.

VTC-SRG is a clinical program that provides clinical support by licensed mental health counselors who are also Veterans themselves, to Veterans enrolled in the VTC. The VTC-SRG can enhance the value of other existing community supports, such as peer mentorship, and our status as Veterans helps reduce certain barriers many of our participants face when connecting with other mental health professionals.

How This Works

STEP 01

We begin by sitting in at your docket to familiarize ourselves with your participants and court team.

STEP 02

If your district is ready for us to begin providing on site mental health care through our VTC-SRG Group, we provide a template for an MOU that has to be submitted to the State that allows us to use available space at the courthouse free of charge.

STEP 03

While we wait for the MOU to be approved, we continue to sit in at your court and the Probation office in your district can begin the process to participate in our Master Contract (see directions in the next section) that allocates some of your district’s current funding to pay for services with WHP.

STEP 04

Once the MOU has been signed, we begin providing services immediately on site.

STEP 05

As we begin providing services, we have found it to be even more impactful to have our Clinical Director sit in on staffing meetings for the VTC to offer an immediate mental health perspective and give general participation updates of the veterans utilizing our services. This is optional but certain districts do report that this has been a valuable resource to the court team.

Typically Probation is the unit to apply for participation in contracts that can provide services to clients:

STEP 01
Search for Wounded Healer Project’s Master Contract in Forum
STEP 02
Apply for a Participating Child Contract through Forum
STEP 03
Complete all steps of the application which is sent to the Contract Management Unit
STEP 04
Once the CMU approves the contract, Wounded Healer Project can officially provide services to your clients.
